REPORT #2
"From Marginalized to Magnified", February 2020 Provincial Report
A Way Home Kamloops and Youth Against Youth Homelessness would like to celebrate the launch of the provincial report, "From Marginalized to Magnified". Our Executive Director, Katherine McParland, completed this report as her Masters of Social Work Leadership practicum with the Office of the Representative for Children and Youth.
This report magnifies the first voices and lived expertise of 231 youth across BC, detailing pathways, impacts, barriers, and most importantly the solutions to ending youth homelessness as informed by the 231 provincial youth participants.
Who We Are
A Way Home Kamloops is a charitable non-profit that provides housing and support services to youth at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Our organization provides a range of wraparound supports from prevention to housing to employment and education to support youth in achieving critical developmental milestones as part of a healthy transition to adulthood. A Way Home Kamloops provides a continuum of housing options and operates from a “Youth Housing First” philosophy. To support youth in achieving “adulting” skills, we provide a variety of programs including life-skills, case management, employment readiness, peer navigation, and support groups. A Way Home Kamloops is a leader and innovator in preventing and ending youth homelessness.
A Way Home Kamloops is implementing Kamloops’ Community plan “A Way Home: A plan to end youth homelessness". This plan has transformed our community towards ending homelessness and provided a model for other communities to adapt to their unique context. A Way Home Kamloops provides community coordination to reduce gaps in services & ensure there are no wrong doors for homeless youth. Our community collective ensures every sector and member has a pivotal role to play in ending youth homelessness.
We work with a collective of 200+ members from all sectors including youth, non-profits, landlords, businesses, students, ministries, and community members.
