Youth Against Youth Homelessness

First Voices, youth with lived experience of homelessness, are the heart of A Way Home Kamloops. 12 young people from A Way Home Kamloops' housing have formed a vibrant, active team called “Youth Against Youth Homelessness.” This has provided opportunities for peer support and mentorship to help other youth leave homelessness behind. Additionally, this group raises awareness and advocates for policy changes. The youth are giving back to their community to turn probabilities into possibilities for their peers.

Canada Home Depot has recognized this impact and presented Youth Against Youth Homelessness with a $25,000 award recognizing their exemplary youth leadership. This has resulted in two employed Youth Advisors that are leading projects towards ending youth homelessness. A group of twelve youth are working on a book called “Pages Of Hope” to share their experiences of homelessness in hopes of creating community change. Youth Against Youth Homelessness has also led A Way Home Kamloops fundraisers and awareness events such as the Youth Homelessness Count Launch.
